There is something special about a hot cup of homemade masala chai that speaks to your soul. Contrary to popular belief, Masala Chai doesn't come in the form of a concentrate or powder, it is made using and age-old process of steeping black tea in milk and water and adding in freshly blended ground spices. A beautiful and authentic masala chai in under 10 minutes!
The chai latte from your local coffee shop is no comparison to this simple and traditional Indian masala chai recipe!

Ingredients
1 cup of water
1-2 tsp loose black tea leaves (a black tea bag will suffice if you do not have loose black tea leaves)
- ½ tsp The Spice Collective Chai Masala spice blend
½ cup whole milk*
- Sugar or sweetener to taste
Directions
In a small saucepan, boil water
- Add black tea leaves and Chai Masala blend
- Boil 2 minutes
- Add milk, bring to boil until tea is about to overflow, do this once more (double boil method), turn off the stove
- Cover pot with lid and let sit for 2 minutes
- Strain tea into cup, add your favorite sugar or sweetener and serve
Recipe Note
* Other milk options and ratios:
Skim: no water, 1 cup milk
2%: 1 cup water, 1 cup milk
Soy: ¾ cup water, 1¼ cup milk
Almond: ¾ cup water, 1 cup milk
Coconut: 1 cup water, ¾ cup milk
Oat: 1 cup water, 1 cup milk
